Cardboard self portrait

Media - Cardboard self portrait

- i printed a picture of myself and glued it onto the piece of cardboard
- i then ripped the paper off the top of the surface to reveal the texture underneath while still leaving some of the paper on top
- i then used white and black charcoal on the picture to give a more dramatic darker feel to the face making it stand out more
- then i blended the white and black charcoal into the background and pulled more paper off to reveal sections of brown surrounded by the charcoal
- then i went in with color where there were spaces between the black and white and blended the color in various areas to add more contrast

Materials - cardboard, pastels, charcoal, printed picture

Oil pastel bottles

Media: Oil pastel bottles

- I drew the outline of glass bottles very loosely with a white oil pastel and then drew lines throughout the bottles

- Lastly i chose white, orange, and yellow to make the bottles stand out and colored the sections created outside the bottles with those colors

- I had a piece of wood and i glued the shredded glass pieces to the wood forming my design after i drew out the design first with pencil
- Leaving a space for the mirror and placing a piece of cardboard over it i then spread grout over the piece and spread it out using the edges of cardboard
- I then took clay tools and carved out the pieces of glass so they were clearly visible and removed the cardboard and glued the mirror down
- Then to finish i smoothed the grout and painted white over it and the sides to give it a cleaner finish and i wiped down the mirror and glass as well

glass bead

Media - glass making

- For making a glass bead i first got a piece of glass and heated it up using a torch
- I gathered a ball of hot, molten glass and then took the mandrel and spun the ball of hot glass onto the mandrel after it was heated up keeping both the glass and mandrel in the hottest part of the flam
- While doing this you have to keep the mandrel and the glass slowly rotating to create and even amount of glass
- Once the glass is on the mandrel you continue to rotate the mandrel then i took another colored piece of glass and heated it up keeping the mandrel turning
- I then added the other color of glass onto the glass on the mandrel spinning the mandrel to allow the glass to flow on
- I then kept heating the mandrel and kept it in the hottest part of the flame evening the bead out
- Also throughout this process my arm remained horizontal so the bead was not uneven
- Once i was finished i took the mandrel out of the flame keeping it rotating and buried it in rice to let it cool

Materials - Mandrel, long pieces of glass, oxygen gas, glasses, torch
